I was clearing out some old notes today and found this; my initial musings for my speech at The a Four Magic Chords show in 2013. I hope you find it interesting.
Man Made Music?
A wise man once said “The good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain” and that wise man was Bob Marley.
Wise and inspirational as he was in my years of being a musician and teaching music, I have discovered this to not be strictly true.
Music is bigger than me and bigger than you. It’s bigger than examination boards and university, bigger than Sony EMI, and BMG. It’s bigger than stadium tours, Wembley Arena, X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
Music is primal – it exists without us, and makes us feel things without understanding
I want my colleagues and clients, family and friends to have some amazing memories because of igloo efforts – I want them to look back on their experiences and feel the thrill of being alive because they did these things
“Music can lift is out of depression, or move us to tears – it’s a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear. For some, music not not a luxury but a necessity.” Oliver Sacks
