I Wish I’d Done This When I Was Younger
October 18, 2022We hear this a lot. I understand it, but for whatever reason, you didn’t. There are many benefits of being an adult learner, and even an older adult learner.
- You have the life experience to appreciate that most things that a little time to come together. When you learned to drive you had to assimilate information and physical skills. You didn’t just get in the car and drive it. Now sometimes you pull up outside the Co-op almost unaware of the skills you used to get there.
- You can choose what you do with your spare time. If you want to sit down with your instrument for 20mins you can.
- You have the maturity not to expect instant results. We like to get you results as quickly as possible, but it’s rarely instant or the first time.
- You understand that you get out of life what you put in. Learning music is the same.
- If you’re retired, perhaps you have time that you didn’t have as a younger person.
- You can concentrate for longer than you could when you were a child.
- You can choose to learn something because you enjoy it, not because it might be useful when you grow up.
- Learning an instrument gives you a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment that reduces stress and gives you your own outlet.
- You know that doing things for yourself is good for you and the people around you.
Sometimes newer members make comments like ’kids just absorb things though don’t they?’ and in my personal experience, my answer has to be ’not if they’re not interested’. Any person of any age will take in more and make more progress if they enjoy what they’re learning.
For whatever reason, if you didn’t do it when you were younger, you have the chance now.
We’re here if you want to talk.
