In Remission and Raising her Voice
July 16, 201917 year old cancer survivor performs at local festival to raise money for the charity that supported her family during chemotherapy.
On Sunday 30th June, Mount Folly Nurseries in Wickham hosted a day for all the family to raise money for two local charities who do amazing work in our community.
“My step-daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and CLIC Sargent were amazing. Without them, I don’t know how I would have gotten through it” says DiElle, singer-songwriter from Wickham. “It’s incredible to have Caity play for them herself today, now she is in well enough; she’s always loved music”.
Caity Wood, now in remission aged 17, performed at the festival accompanying herself on ukulele, to great applause.
“We are so grateful to all from Mount Folly Nurseries for supporting ourselves and Naomi House and Jacksplace at their Charity Festival Day.” Says Liz Blunt, fundraiser for CLIC Sargent South, “It was such a wonderful day with amazingly priced plants, beautiful music organised by Igloo Music UK and fantastic stall holders. We really appreciate all the hard work that went into making such a successful event and a huge thank you to DiElle, Chris and Caity, Angela and Graham and the Mount Folly team for thinking of children and young people with cancer.”
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading charity for children and young people with cancer and last year supported 194 children and young people with cancer from Hampshire. The charity provides a “Home from Home” called Jean’s House in Southampton for families to stay in and a team of CLIC Sargent Social Workers are based at Southampton Hospital providing emotional, practical and financial support for the whole family.
The final total now in, Mount Folly Nurseries’ efforts raised just over £2400 this year, and the team are thrilled, and would like to thank all the stall holders and local businesses Wright Choice Catering, Wickham Beer Festival, All Good Things of Wickham, Igloo Music, Pool Pro, Hot Tubs Hampshire, and artists Solent Sounds Chorus, Igloo Music, Eve Williams and DiElle who helped make the day such a huge success.
