Strumming Chords and New Chums for Peter at Ukulele Club
December 16, 2012
Igloo Music UK have had great success with the Ukulele and Guitar Choir located in Hayling Island, with a great turn out each week and such positive feedback from members, Igloo have decided to start a new beginners Ukulele group launching on January 12th at the Castle Centre, Porchester, with the first session Free.
The invitation is open to all adults, no previous ukulele or music reading experience is needed, just a little enthusiasm and readiness to come and try something different, meet new people and have a bit of fun.
Retired Engineer Peter Chinn, 74, has lived on the island for 5 years and is a member at the Hayling Island Ukulele group. Peter kindly answered a few questions to give a little insight of what it’s like to be part of Igloo Music and his experience so far.
Igloo Music: How did you find out about Igloo Music’s Ukulele Choir and when did you join?
Peter: I read the advertisement for the ukulele group in the ‘Hayling Islander’ and joined the 1st week after the launch.
Igloo Music: What was the reason for joining the group Peter?
Peter: It all started when I fancied just trying something new and bought myself a classical guitar, firstly I began trying to teach myself and then hired a tutor but that didn’t work out so well. When I saw the advertisement the ukulele sounded just right, and with just 4 strings I thought it shouldn’t be too hard to master.
Igloo Music: Have you made any new friends through the group?
Peter: I have met lots of lovely people, a few in particular, one who is actually a close neighbour and now we practice together, I’ve found a friendship where we can encourage and help one another. There’s also another member I’ve become friendly with and we look out for each other when out and about.
Igloo Music: In just a few words can you describe your experience with Igloo Music?
Peter: Yes, Inspirational. They have a great approach to teaching. So patient and you’re not ridiculed in any way. There’s a great atmosphere, all I have to do is give a little ‘look’ if I’m not sure and they’re there to help and I’m also always meeting new people.
The Hayling Island group will be starting again January 7th, also a brand new fun singing group with the same ethos shall be commencing at the Hayling Island community centre early 2013.
