World Voice Day!
April 12, 2016World Voice Day is a worldwide annual event devoted to the phenomenon of voice; it has been celebrated all over the world since 1998, with the aim to demonstrate the enormous importance of voice in our daily life.
This year, choirs and vocal groups will sing all over the world, including The Igloo Choir at The Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, in Havant, to join in a global celebration. This idea was implemented by Johan Sundberg, author of ‘The Science Of The Singing Voice’, aka ‘Mr World Voice Day’, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday.
The Igloo Choir, with a firm value of music and friendship, welcome people to join them in making a noise with their voices (and/or singing) on Saturday 16th April. From 2pm, the group will learn a brand new piece of music and perform that afternoon for family and friends at 5pm.
“We welcome anyone who would like to join us for a couple of hours of fun and musical frivolity” says Dielle Hannah, Musical Director “no previous experience I necessary, just a good sense of humour and willingness to give it a go! I believe singing is primal. You don’t have to be a ‘musician’ or a ‘singer’ – if you’re human, singing is a means of communication, and you can learn to improve it just like any other skill” says Dielle Hannah, Musical Director of The Igloo Choir.
Carolyn Stallard joined The Igloo Choir four years ago. “I get loads out of it” she says “it’s such a great bunch of people – a real family. I love singing, writing our own songs, performing and singing in harmony. Even the warm up is fun! Lots of smiles and laughs… oh and cake! I think it helps with stress for sure; it’s an escape from all our everyday stuff. Learning to breathe properly helps the lungs too – it’s a total ‘feel good’ activity”
Retired teacher Vivienne James says joining the Igloo Choir is “the best thing I’ve done” having joined about 3 years ago, Viv says “It’s a lovely group of people who have become good friends!!! I love being part of the song-writing process and singing in three part harmony is fabulous!! You forget everything else when singing!!!”
We hope you will join us for a fun, free afternoon to celebrate the wonder of voice.
