Local Business Authors Share Their Secrets
September 16, 2016The Author’s Journey
If you’ve been in business for a while, getting some results, but know things could be better, you might be looking at other strategies to stand out and get noticed.
“In this fast paced world, with more and more people setting up their businesses, it is even more important that business owners get really clear about what they are selling, who they are selling to and why their potential client should work with them. Writing a book is one way to achieve that clarity.” Says Sheryl Andrews, successful business author.
However writing a book can be a daunting and lonely task. Every author goes on a journey from dreaming, to planning, structuring, actually writing, marketing and selling. No one person is good at all of these stages, so successful business author and book mentor Karen Williams (Librotas) and Sheryl Andrews are creating a community who can tap into each other’s skills and resources.
‘The Author’s Journey’ Networking Events offer support to authors at all stages of writing or marketing their book. The most recent event on 12th September was a roaring success, with focus on audiobooks, now being a billion dollar industry.
Each meeting features a guest speaker, and this one saw a presentation about the benefites of making your book an audiobook from the Igloo Studios UK team (www.igloomusic.co.uk/voice-over-studio). “Thoroughly enjoyable evening and great to get a first hand look at the Igloo Studio” says author and participant Steve Bimpson.
Authors were gathered around the microphone in the voice over studio and took turns in reading extracts from their books, to experience what it would be like to make their own book into an audiobook. The Igloo Studios UK Team described the process of making an audiobook, how music and sound effects can be added, and options for distributing an audiobook to reach a non-reading audience, as one of many ways of expanding the authors’ readership. This was an eyeopening experience for many participants, and Karen Williams says “I’m looking forward to coming back and finishing the audio version of ‘Your Book Is The Hook’ later this year”
Authors taking part in these events have found them very supportive and useful, so if you’d like to tap into the resource, please visit the Librotas website for details.
