Only Remembered – guest coaching session with Portchester Community Choir

This week I had a lovely session guest coaching Portchester Community Choir, invited by their leader Ruth to come and talk about elements of vocal production with the members. We also worked on a few techniques for group singing, busted a few myths about the human voice and how it works.

The group are rehearsing for a performance on Remembrance Day, singing ‘Only Remembered’ from War Horse. It’s a lovely piece and I enjoyed the arrangement everyone is working on. We spent a bit of time tinkering, and polishing certain passages, and we talked about a few exercises that can help with certain issues, like feeling strained when we sing.

All in all it was a lovely evening. Community singing really is a wonderful thing.
