Saved by the Lifeboat

September 12, 2017

Last Sunday, The Igloo Band, Igloo Choir, Rock and Blues Guitar group and solo guitar Ben Graham were booked to play music all afternoon at Eaststoke Corner on Hayling Island. This big group event of Igloo musicians was to celebrate the end of the summer together, and enjoy being part of the series of community music events Playing On The Plaza. Earlier that morning, singers from The Igloo Choir had been to visit Jean, a local lady who met the choir through the British Heart Foundation Befriending Scheme. After a sing-song (and a glass of bubbly) in Jean’s living room, the choir and Jean joined the rest of the Igloo group at East Stoke Corner.

Unfortunately, by this time, the wind was whipping up and the rain was starting to drive in from the sea, letting the group know they were a bit late with their end of summer celebrations. Undeterred by this, some of the members ran across the road to The Lifeboat, and spoke to the new landlady, who very kindly allowed the group in out of the rain to perform together. Members of the group vary across all walks of life, including one choir member who is expecting her third son, several ex-forces members and the youngest member Ben, a guitar prodigy who starred in the group performance of Hotel California, and we all had a great time playing together despite the inclement welcome to autumn!
