September 13th Igloo Private Jam Night!
September 13, 2013 Despite the horrible weather and the definite step into autumn, we had a great turn out for the jam night tonight at the North Boarhunt Social Club.
The club is currently having part of the club refurbished, so by the next jam on October 4th, the brand new bar area should be ready.
After a plugged in rehearsal with The Rising – a band started by Igloo members – we were treated to a solo performance from Viv James, who usually sings in a group in the Igloo Choir. Self accompanied on the guitar, Viv sang ‘Annie’s Song’ – an old folk club favourite.
Then Colin Martin completed his second solo performance – a lovely version of ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel. He told us that Billy Joel had written this song when playing in a club every week to pay his rent when he was younger, and also that Paul McCartney is rumored to have wished that he wrote this song!
Other performances included a show piece from Miss Saigon, When You’re Gone by Avril Lavigne, an original song from Amy Goddard, a couple of chart hits from Heidi and Bob, a lovely original song from Colin Jeffrey about his parents, and a gorgeous folk song ‘No Telling’ from Matt Goddard.
After the various solos and duos of the evening, most members joined together to play some group pieces we have performed at gigs this summer, and also enjoyed some rehearsal time for an upcoming gig in October. A good fun time was had by all, and great sound coming from singers, guitarists, keyboard and bass!
Thanks to all who came along and made it a good fun and musical evening! The team are really pleased that you are finding these evenings useful as a means to practice performing, practice playing together with others, try out original material and have an outlet for the music you are working on at any time.
We’ll next be getting together on 4th of October for a jam – hopefully see you there to make some good noise!
